About Us

Company History

Headquartered in Le Roy, New York, OpWare sells, supports and enhances ProTek Plus, a high quality maintenance management software system originally developed by Nielsen-PM Associates. ProTek Plus software, support, and staff were transferred to OpWare, LLC in January of 2001. Customers of NPMA and their support and software licenses have been transferred to the new company.

The company name, OpWare, is a combination of "operations" and "software", reflecting our mission of providing operation improvement support and maintenance software. We seek to establish and maintain long-term relationships with our clients. Years after the system is installed, we are still supporting them, upgrading their systems, and listening to their needs.

The software is only part of the complete maintenance package OpWare sells. The buyers also receive experienced installation, consulting services, and an intensive training program, continued "Hotline" software support to improve and extend their maintenance program, and, depending on the situation, the computer hardware.

The principal manager of OpWare is James N. Nielsen, PE, a recognized leader in the field of maintenance management. Mr. Nielsen brings to bear his professional engineer's qualifications and the practical "know-how" experience gained over 30 years in maintenance management and consulting assignments with large and small industrial and governmental operations. As a managing principal of a nationally recognized management consulting firm, he was instrumental in the development and installation of an automated maintenance management system designed for the System 34. Drawing upon his experience, he has directed the development of ProTek Plus.

A Letter From The Director

Dear Maintenance Professional:

OpWare is proud to introduce you to ProTek Plus, the finest tool available to meet the information needs of manufacturing, health care, and facility maintenance organizations. The ProTek Plus version is the Graphical User Interface implementation of an earlier character-based system. This system was first introduced in 1983 and we have been dedicated to serving the maintenance market with a premium relational database product ever since; it is our only interest.

Of course, the system you will be introduced to in this Web site bears no relationship to the 1982 effort with one exception: the first system reflected the best efforts of a dedicated and knowledgeable staff and drew on the best technology available, as does the current version of ProTek Plus. Enhancements added since that time are representative of the vast knowledge of our user base, representing the best maintenance organizations in America and around the world.

Like you, these companies face significant challenges to remain competitive in a difficult environment for both services and products. They are meeting these challenges and many have become or remain leaders in their fields. They believe ProTek Plus has been a significant contributor to their success.

There was a time when maintenance was a reactive "fix-it" function. No More! Success today demands the proactive participation of the maintenance organization in ensuring equipment and facilities continue to run as designed, and in fact, run and produce better today than they did yesterday. Only an effective information system, which can support continuous improvement by tapping all of the knowledge of all of the people in the organization, can ensure that your maintenance function is contributing to the success of the enterprise.

Much attention has been given to modern management approaches to production, marketing, service, and other organizational functions. Unfortunately, little attention has been given to maintenance. As a result, excellence in maintenance can now be the next great competitive advantage. An effective information system will lie at the core of any strategy to harness the resources of the maintenance organization to reduce downtime, improve quality, and increase productivity. I hope you will see this system for what it is: a proactive tool which in the hands of the professionals in your organization will help harness an immense potential for improvement.

Please think beyond records, reports, and "cost control." ProTek Plus will give you all of that, of course, but more importantly, it will provide the information infrastructure needed to support continuous improvement wherever your processes are impacted by the function and reliability of items and the performance of facilities.

Respectfully,

James N. Nielsen, PE
